Motivation

OK so here is a question for you guys. What motivates you to go to the gym? I'm having a hard time finding the " workout high". I mean OK I feel pretty damn good after a workout, but no where near what others describe it as. I have had people describe working out as a lot of fun. I do not feel this way. Working out to me is very hard work. I'm literally working my ass off. The way I look at is its very hard work with an incredible payoff. Like when you finish a big job you can stand back and look at your efforts with pride. I have already lost close to 70 pounds in the last 2-3 years, and it was anything but fun. Wondering if maybe I'm not pushing myself hard enough now. If any on can share what inspires them, let me know.

  1. I look at it this way, at least in terms of running: I don't enjoy running. Generally, I hate every minute of it while I'm doing it (with a few exceptions). It's the way I feel when I'm done, happy, proud, more than a little amazed that I accomplished whatever distance I did, that makes it all worthwhile. Like you, I also see it as one step in a long journey. I'm pleased and proud that my kids get to see me running/exercising, and I'm happy that I am getting stronger and more fit. I've never felt a "high" like I've heard described, but I generally feel pretty damn good after I exercise (where good=sweaty, tired and sore). Keep it up, you're doing great! (Now I need to get myself back on track!)

  2. You are definitely right that working out is hard work and to be honest it should be otherwise everyone would be in great shape. You have to be willing to get up every day and expect to be better then you were the day before. You have to be willing to push yourself harder than you did yesterday. If you love competition that is when working out becomes fun. You’re always competing against yourself that’s where I feel most people get the love for working out. Doing something that makes yourself better, doing something that makes your stronger mentally as well as physically. There is no better feeling! Self doubt on the other hand is what cripples most people they can’t overcome their own minds, if they think they can’t do it than they never will. Telling yourself you can and you will is the best motivation there is. The feeling that you get when your personal best becomes your warm up is possibly one of the greatest feelings there is. That is my motivation!! Knowing that I’m that much better then I once was. I love little saying that get you pumped up and motivated but they don’t keep your going. Your passion and will power to be a better person is what keeps you motivated. Sometimes you need a jump start and having someone in your face to get you amped up does wonders, someone to hold you accountable. The best advice I can give you is be proud of what you’ve already achieved, and keep moving forward.. set small goals that lead to bigger goal that lead to lifestyles changes… If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you!
    Good luck!

If you ever need any help, I’m always willing to!
